Exemplification (week 12)

Exemplification




On Monday 10th April, we learned about Chapter 8: Exemplification., the teacher read and explained the text, this text is about adding bore information to explain, persuade, or illustrate a general idea.

Then, she told us to read about exemplification finished, she explained us about commonly used abbreviations and transitions in exemplification text.



After that, the teacher told us to do Text 1-4 . 

After I did a text I think that commonly used abbreviation and transitions in exemplification text difficult for me. Because of it has a lot. But, some world I don’t know of meaning.

But I think, the text 2 was easy for me because I could get the text easily and I could do it correctly.

I used the discourse markers of exemplification to do the activities in the handout.

Definition and Classification


    


On Monday 3rd April, I studied definition and classification., the teacher explained about definition and classification. Then, she told us to read definition and classification, it had many examples. 


And then, she taught us about the discourse markers of definition and classification. So, it will help us to find the meaning of the unknown word in the text.Then, the teacher explained The language of definition and classification in the handout.




After that, she explained us about strategiesdefinition and classification. Then, she told us to do the skill practice 1 and skill practice 2 in the handout


And then, we did it finished, the teacher assigned the text.


I think that text 1 was difficult for me. Because of it have a lot of unknown words.

In the other hand, I think skill practice 2 was easy for me because of I can do it.

Cause and Effect (week 10)

Cause and Effect



On Monday 20th March, we studied Cause and Effect. Then she explained about cause and effect. Next, the teacher assigned us to do practiceand skill practice 1in the handout.

    
Next, she began to explain us about cause and effect. And then, she read text exampleand practicefor us. After that, she explained discourse markers of cause and effect”.


    
And then, the teacher told us to do skill practice 2in the handout. After we did it finished, she gave us the corrective feedback of skill practice 2. 



Next, the teacher told us to read The effect of stressand answer questions below the text.



I think that the effect of stress activity was difficult for me because of I found many difficult words.


I think that skill practice 1 was easy. Because of I just find the word.

Comparison and Contrast continues



On Monday 13th March, we studied Comparison and Contrastcontinued, the teacher was the text 2 in the handout. So, I check with answers were not different.


After that, we set the chairs for preparing about the mid-term test.

I think the mid-term test of this course was not difficult for me because of I can do it.

    In addition, I used finding the discourse marker for reading the text. So, it made me comprehend the text easily.

I summery about comparison and contrast for I understand it.



Homework:

    A: Do you agree with Tannens views on the subject? Be specific about your points of disagreement.
  •   Yes, I agree with Tannens view.

    
    B: Are any of Tannens points about the different personalities of men and women true in your native culture? Explain. Do men and women in your native culture use the language the way Tannen claims American men and women do? Give specific examples.
  •     Yes, men make fun of women for talking too much.

Procedure continues and Comparison and Contrast (week 8)

"Procedure continues" and Comparison and Contrast"


On Monday 6th March, I studied Procedureand Comparison and Contrast, the teacher told us to talk with friends about what did I do on weekend?After that, she read the text 3 in the handout and then she read it finished, she opened words that helped us for pronouncing them accurately such as:

  •   ensure (v.) /ɪnˈʃɔːr/ = to make something certain to happen.
  •   disposal (n.)  /dɪˈspəʊ.zəl/ = the act of getting rid of something,        especially by throwing it away.


Next, she told us to open the first page of this handout. So, it was about the purpose, types of procedural texts, - The purpose of the procedure is to tell the reader how to do or make somethingTypes of procedural texts are explain how something works or how to use instruction/operation manuals, and that instruct how to do a particular activity.

Next, the teacher showed us the new reason that was Comparison and Contrast”. Then, she told   On the other hand, 

  • Contrast is to compare the two things or more over that are differences.
  • Comparison is to compare the two things or more over that are similarities.

Next, the teacher read and explained it. Then she gave us the new handout that was about Comparison and Contrast”. After that, she told us to read the text 1 in the handout. After we read it finished, she told us to do the activity in this




I think that compare the things that are difficult for me because of I couldn’t choose the best word for comparison. It had many word to use.

On the other hand, I think exercises 1-5 in the procedure are easy for me.

I used discourse marker for comprehension the many texts that I read in the handout.

Procedure (week 7)

Procedure


On Monday 20th February, after the teacher came to the classroom, she checked our name that who absented for this course because on that day we had to do the quiz 1. Then, she told us to talk about the foods that I had ever cooked”.


Next, she opened the video of Jamie Oliverthat he was cooking the perfect omelet”. Next, she opened other videos that she had ever watched for cooking at abroad on the YouTube

And then, she gave us the handout that was about Procedure. After she told us to do the activities in the handout.

After we did it finished, she told us that this is the time to do the test (quiz 1). We started to do the test (quiz 1).

Today I think the activities in the handout were easy for me because I could do it correctly.

I think that the test (quiz 1) was difficult for me. Because I must use much time for do it.


I use finding references and guessing the meaning of words for reading and doing the test.

Descriptive continues (week 6)

Descriptive continues






On Monday 6th February, I learned about “Descriptive” that was continued from the last week. Next, she told us to talk about “What did you learn last week?” Then she explained and read this story for us. Then, she told us to do the activities for this text.

And then, the teacher taught us to pronounce the words as the native speaker by using the Cambridge Dictionary. So, the words that she opened were;


  •   archipelago (n.)  /ˌɑː.kɪˈpel.ə.ɡəʊ/ = a group of small islands or an area     of sea in which there are many small islands
  •   glorious (adj.) /ˈɡlɔː.ri.əs/ = very beautiful


Next, she told us to read the text 2 Budapest”. After we did it finished, she told to read the text 3. It is Praguethat is the city in Europe. After I finished read, she told us to do the activity below this text.



Finally, the teacher explained the purpose of Descriptive So, its to describe and reveal a particular personplace, or thing”.

After I finished this lesson, I think text 4 is easy for me because I could read it understandably.

In addition, I think I found many difficult words that I didn’t know the meaning

I used skimming, scanning, and finding references to comprehend the texts.
